What is a DIY pool?
A DIY pool is one where you buy the fibreglass pool shell and everything required to install it — but you (or your own local contractor) handle the physical installation. You still get a genuine Compass Pool with the full manufacturer warranty. You just save the professional installation labour cost.
What are the benefits of a DIY kit pool?
- Time savings. Traditional installation lead times can stretch to 5–6 months. With a DIY kit you can begin installation as soon as you've got Council approval — often aligning perfectly with your build schedule.
- Cost savings. By using a smaller local pool installation contractor — or handling parts of the installation yourself as an owner-builder — you can significantly reduce the installed cost.
- Full control. You decide who handles which parts of the install, the sequencing, and how much you're personally involved.
- Same warranty. The Compass triple warranty on the shell applies whether we install it or you do.
A DIY pool is an excellent option for anyone with the time, some project-management ability and a willingness to take on a large build — and who wants to save on installation costs.
What are the downsides of a DIY kit pool?
DIY installation isn't for everyone. You'll need to coordinate excavation, plumbing, electrical, backfill, coping and landscaping yourself. Any errors in setting or backfilling the shell can be costly to remedy. You'll also need to sort your own Council approvals, insurances and safety compliance. If you don't have building experience or the time to project-manage, a full installation from our team is typically the smarter path.
Is a DIY Compass pool warranted the same as a professionally installed one?
The Compass Pools triple warranty on the shell — ArmourShield cosmetic, Ceramic Core structural, and HydroPro hydrostatic — applies to the shell itself, regardless of who installs it. However, if the installation isn't done to Compass's engineering specifications, warranty claims can be affected. Follow the supplied documentation, and if in doubt, ask us.
Can I get help partway through the build?
Absolutely. Many DIY customers choose to hand certain stages back to us — for example, doing the excavation and backfill themselves but engaging our team for the shell set and coping. Talk to us about a hybrid arrangement that suits your budget and site.
