Planning a pool in Dungog
Flood mapping
Some lots in and around Dungog are flood-mapped by Dungog Shire Council. That can set the pool level, the surrounds and whether a Development Application is needed.
The approval process →Acreage & long access
On larger Dungog properties the decisions are distance from the house, power and plumbing runs, and truck-and-crane access in all weather.
Installation options →Tank or bore water
If you’re not on town water, the first fill is usually delivered by water-carting tanker; top-ups can come from tanks or a bore once we’ve tested it.

What Compass Pool Centre Newcastle customers say
Verified reviews from our Google Business profile — real customers rating us 4.6 stars.
One of the best customer experiences by far. Bryce is an absolute example of ‘going above and beyond’ when he attended to our pool. He took the time to not only make sure our pool was going to be fixed within his scope but also with chemicals, and also providing us with education on how to look after our pool better. A real honest and kind human. Thank you Bryce.
Our Pool is approx 15 years old now and its been a wonderful addition to our property. It was seamless from the start to the finish of the install all those years ago. It was quick and efficient and it was a pleasure to work with your install team .
Since then we have enjoyed many years of low maintenance and a real feeling of being in a little destination in our backyard … Club M !
Had our Compass pool with in-floor cleaning installed 3 years ago. Could not fault the installation, after sales care and service. The Paramount in-floor cleaning system is amazing and handles leaf litter like magic. Recently had an issue with the module and the local office were so awesome to deal with. Very happy customer!
We have a compass self cleaning pool which was installed in 2000, still cleaning itself like a champion! Definitely recommend! ♥️ Thanks guys. :)
Very helpful and full of knowledge
Great Service. Thanks Team :)
Pools in Dungog — your questions answered
Does Williams River flooding affect pools around Dungog?
On flood-mapped land it can influence the pool’s position and level, and wet ground needs proper hydrostatic protection. We check council mapping for your property before design.
Is delivery a problem on a long or unsealed driveway?
Shells arrive on a truck and are craned into place, so what matters is whether a truck and crane can reach a suitable set-up spot — including in wet weather. We walk the access route at the site visit and plan the delivery day around it.
How long from first enquiry to swimming?
Approvals usually take the longest — typically several weeks, depending on the pathway. Once approved, a fibreglass shell can be craned in and filled within days; fencing, paving and landscaping then take a few more weeks.
Do you install out toward the Barrington area?
Often, subject to site access — steep or narrow rural roads are the main thing we check, because the shell arrives on a truck and needs a crane on site.
Do I need council approval for a pool in Dungog?
Dungog Shire Council assesses Development Applications for pools in the shire. Rural lots, flood mapping along the Williams River and on-site wastewater systems all influence the design and the approval pathway. More in our certifier’s guide to the NSW approval process.
Does being 70km from Newcastle add to the cost?
Travel and crane time are part of every quote, and we itemise them so nothing is hidden. Because the shell is made next door to our Tomago base, the extra for outlying areas is usually smaller than people expect.
