Planning a pool in Greta
Acreage & long access
On larger Greta properties the decisions are distance from the house, power and plumbing runs, and truck-and-crane access in all weather.
Installation options →Reactive clay
Reactive clays common in parts of Greta swell and shrink with moisture. The shell copes with movement; drainage and engineered surrounds matter most.

What Compass Pool Centre Newcastle customers say
Verified reviews from our Google Business profile — real customers rating us 4.6 stars.
One of the best customer experiences by far. Bryce is an absolute example of ‘going above and beyond’ when he attended to our pool. He took the time to not only make sure our pool was going to be fixed within his scope but also with chemicals, and also providing us with education on how to look after our pool better. A real honest and kind human. Thank you Bryce.
Our Pool is approx 15 years old now and its been a wonderful addition to our property. It was seamless from the start to the finish of the install all those years ago. It was quick and efficient and it was a pleasure to work with your install team .
Since then we have enjoyed many years of low maintenance and a real feeling of being in a little destination in our backyard … Club M !
Had our Compass pool with in-floor cleaning installed 3 years ago. Could not fault the installation, after sales care and service. The Paramount in-floor cleaning system is amazing and handles leaf litter like magic. Recently had an issue with the module and the local office were so awesome to deal with. Very happy customer!
We have a compass self cleaning pool which was installed in 2000, still cleaning itself like a champion! Definitely recommend! ♥️ Thanks guys. :)
Very helpful and full of knowledge
Great Service. Thanks Team :)

Pools in Greta — your questions answered
Greta has both town and rural lots — does the approval pathway change?
Yes. Zoning sets the setbacks and which complying development rules apply, and rural lots often have on-site wastewater areas the pool must avoid. We check your zoning first.
How do you fill a pool if we’re not on town water?
The first fill is normally delivered by a water-carting tanker, which avoids draining your tanks. After that, top-ups can come from rainwater tanks or a bore if the water quality suits — we’ll test it and set up the sanitiser accordingly.
What’s the best way to heat a pool here?
It depends on how you’ll use it. Solar suits extending the season cheaply, heat pumps give reliable warmth, and gas heats fastest. Our heating guide compares all three.
Can we build a pool and an outdoor kitchen together in Greta?
It’s a great combination. Planning both together lets power, water and drainage be run once, and the pool can be positioned so the cook isn’t cut off from the swimmers.
Does being 50km from Newcastle add to the cost?
Travel and crane time are part of every quote, and we itemise them so nothing is hidden. Because the shell is made next door to our Tomago base, the extra for outlying areas is usually smaller than people expect.
Which council approves a pool in Greta?
Cessnock City Council is the consent authority for a Development Application, or a registered certifier can issue a Complying Development Certificate where the site qualifies. The area’s coal-mining history means some properties fall within a Mine Subsidence District, and rural-zoned lots have their own setback rules — both are checked before design. More in our certifier’s guide to the NSW approval process.
