Flood mapping
Some lots in and around Karuah are flood-mapped by Port Stephens or MidCoast Council. That can set the pool level, the surrounds and whether a Development Application is needed.
The approval process →Acid sulfate soils
Low-lying land near the rivers around Karuah can contain acid sulfate soils. Where mapped, excavation may need a management plan.

What Compass Pool Centre Newcastle customers say
Verified reviews from our Google Business profile — real customers rating us 4.6 stars.
One of the best customer experiences by far. Bryce is an absolute example of ‘going above and beyond’ when he attended to our pool. He took the time to not only make sure our pool was going to be fixed within his scope but also with chemicals, and also providing us with education on how to look after our pool better. A real honest and kind human. Thank you Bryce.
Our Pool is approx 15 years old now and its been a wonderful addition to our property. It was seamless from the start to the finish of the install all those years ago. It was quick and efficient and it was a pleasure to work with your install team .
Since then we have enjoyed many years of low maintenance and a real feeling of being in a little destination in our backyard … Club M !
Had our Compass pool with in-floor cleaning installed 3 years ago. Could not fault the installation, after sales care and service. The Paramount in-floor cleaning system is amazing and handles leaf litter like magic. Recently had an issue with the module and the local office were so awesome to deal with. Very happy customer!
We have a compass self cleaning pool which was installed in 2000, still cleaning itself like a champion! Definitely recommend! ♥️ Thanks guys. :)
Very helpful and full of knowledge
Great Service. Thanks Team :)

Pools in Karuah — your questions answered
Karuah is on the river — any special site considerations?
Riverside land can carry flood mapping and, on low-lying ground, acid sulfate soils. Both are checked before design and can influence the pool level and excavation method.
Do fibreglass pools crack?
Properly installed fibreglass pools are flexible and very durable; most problems people hear about come from poor installation or ground conditions. Our technical expert explains.
Can you deliver a pool shell to Karuah?
Yes — around 35km up the highway from our Tomago base. Delivery is straightforward; the site visit focuses on where the crane can set up on your property.
Is delivery a problem on a long or unsealed driveway?
Shells arrive on a truck and are craned into place, so what matters is whether a truck and crane can reach a suitable set-up spot — including in wet weather. We walk the access route at the site visit and plan the delivery day around it.
Is a self-cleaning system worth it?
For most families, yes — in-floor cleaning cuts vacuuming and brushing to almost nothing and improves circulation. Our technical advisor explains whether self-cleaning pools really work.
Which council approves a pool in Karuah?
Karuah sits on the boundary between Port Stephens Council and MidCoast Council, so which council you deal with depends on your property. Either way the choice is between a Development Application and a Complying Development Certificate, and riverside land can carry flood or acid sulfate soil mapping. More in our certifier’s guide to the NSW approval process.
