The brief

Architectural harmony meets everyday luxury: a 5m Compass Plunge in Bi-Luminite Quartz.

When exceptional architecture and thoughtful landscape design come together, every element needs to earn its place. This 5-metre Plunge Pool wasn't simply added to the home — it became part of it.

The brief was clear: create a pool that would complement the bold geometric architecture of a bespoke home designed by ELK Architecture, deliver effortless functionality, and become a visual feature from every angle of the home.

The result is a stunning 5-metre Compass Pools Plunge in Bi-Luminite Quartz — a sophisticated outdoor retreat that perfectly balances architectural elegance with everyday practicality.

Designed to belong

Positioned within a compact urban courtyard, the pool sits at the heart of a residence that embraces clean lines, expansive glazing and a contemporary material palette. Rather than competing with the architecture, the pool was designed to become an extension of it.

Its crisp rectangular form mirrors the home's strong geometric lines, while the luminous Bi-Luminite Quartz finish reflects surrounding glass, steel and timber throughout the day. As natural light changes, the water continually transforms — creating a living feature that enhances the home's architectural character.

Because the pool is visible from multiple internal living spaces through floor-to-ceiling glazing, every detail mattered. Waterline accuracy, coping alignment and finished levels were all executed with absolute precision to ensure the pool looked as flawless from inside the home as it does when standing beside it.

Small pool. Big lifestyle impact.

Although compact in size, the 5-metre Plunge delivers everything the homeowners were looking for. Designed to support an active lifestyle, it provides the perfect space for cooling off, gentle exercise, post-workout recovery or simply unwinding after a busy day.

The single-level internal design improves accessibility for all ages, making it equally enjoyable for children, older family members and guests while maintaining a clean, minimalist aesthetic. It's proof that a smaller pool doesn't mean compromising on lifestyle — when carefully planned, it often creates a more functional outdoor living space.

Technology that works behind the scenes

The homeowners wanted their pool to remain as beautiful as the day it was installed, without the burden of constant maintenance. To achieve this, they selected Compass Pools' exclusive Vantage Self-Cleaning & Circulation System, ensuring consistently sparkling water with minimal manual cleaning. Hidden beneath the surface, advanced hydraulics continually circulate and clean the pool, allowing the owners to spend more time enjoying their backyard and less time maintaining it.

After sunset, strategically positioned multi-coloured LED lighting transforms the pool into an entirely different experience. The illuminated water becomes a striking architectural feature, complementing the home's evening lighting and extending the enjoyment of the outdoor space well into the night.

Precision planning behind the scenes

The confined courtyard left very little room for construction, demanding careful positioning of the pool while maintaining circulation spaces, setbacks and compliance requirements. Space for filtration equipment was equally limited, requiring an efficient equipment layout that delivered full functionality while remaining discreet.

An additional engineering challenge involved installing the pool beneath a protective sleeper cover specifically designed to support scaffolding required during the construction of the home. A purpose-engineered hard cover allowed the house build to continue safely above the pool while protecting the shell throughout construction — an excellent example of careful planning and collaboration delivering an outstanding outcome.

We didn't want a pool in our courtyard — we wanted a pool that felt like part of the house. Compass understood that from the first meeting.
