- Long coastal swimming season
Proudly building pools across Salamander Bay and the surrounding Port Stephens.
Planning a pool in Salamander Bay
Sandy ground
Sand around Salamander Bay digs easily but can collapse into the hole, so excavations need careful battering or shoring.
Why ground conditions matter →High water table
Groundwater can sit close to the surface in parts of Salamander Bay, especially after rain. Every Compass shell includes HydroPro™ hydrostatic protection, and installs may need dewatering.
Can a pool really float? →Why Salamander Bay families choose Compass Pool Centre Newcastle

What Compass Pool Centre Newcastle customers say
Verified reviews from our Google Business profile — real customers rating us 4.6 stars.
One of the best customer experiences by far. Bryce is an absolute example of ‘going above and beyond’ when he attended to our pool. He took the time to not only make sure our pool was going to be fixed within his scope but also with chemicals, and also providing us with education on how to look after our pool better. A real honest and kind human. Thank you Bryce.
Our Pool is approx 15 years old now and its been a wonderful addition to our property. It was seamless from the start to the finish of the install all those years ago. It was quick and efficient and it was a pleasure to work with your install team .
Since then we have enjoyed many years of low maintenance and a real feeling of being in a little destination in our backyard … Club M !
Had our Compass pool with in-floor cleaning installed 3 years ago. Could not fault the installation, after sales care and service. The Paramount in-floor cleaning system is amazing and handles leaf litter like magic. Recently had an issue with the module and the local office were so awesome to deal with. Very happy customer!
We have a compass self cleaning pool which was installed in 2000, still cleaning itself like a champion! Definitely recommend! ♥️ Thanks guys. :)
Very helpful and full of knowledge
Great Service. Thanks Team :)
Pools in Salamander Bay — your questions answered
Is a pool on a Salamander Bay block likely to hit groundwater?
On low-lying sandy lots, possibly. It’s manageable with dewatering during installation and HydroPro™ protection, and the pool should never be drained without advice. Read how groundwater affects pools.
Will sea air damage a pool in Salamander Bay?
The fibreglass shell itself won’t rust or corrode. The parts worth specifying carefully near the coast are the metal ones: marine-grade (316) stainless fence hardware and ladders, and pool equipment housed out of direct salt spray. Rinsing glass fencing and hardware every few weeks keeps everything looking new.
What’s the best way to heat a pool here?
It depends on how you’ll use it. Solar suits extending the season cheaply, heat pumps give reliable warmth, and gas heats fastest. Our heating guide compares all three.
We’re retiring to Salamander Bay — what pool features help with accessibility?
Wide entry steps and benches (the Sanctuary is a good example), a handrail, heating for gentle exercise, and self-cleaning to reduce maintenance all make a pool easier to enjoy for longer.
Which council approves a pool in Salamander Bay?
Port Stephens Council assesses Development Applications here; qualifying projects can use a Complying Development Certificate. Coastal and estuarine land can carry acid sulfate soil or coastal hazard mapping, and koala habitat protections apply in parts of the LGA where trees would need to come out. We check the mapping for your lot before design. More in our certifier’s guide to the NSW approval process.
